Severe weather ecology as a macrosystems focus

At the 6th North American Ornithological Conference (NAOC) in Washington, DC, Dr. Jeremy Ross participated in a symposium series dedicated to macrosystems ecology. He presented a conceptual examination of severe weather impacts as a macroecological phenomenon, with special emphasis on the present lack of bottom-level (i.e., individual impact) data pertaining to severe weather effects.  This undercuts our ability to better understand how species respond to and are affected by current severe weather patterns, let alone predict how shifting severe weather regimes might impact species, ecosystems, and natural processes in the future.
